The prefixes and suffixes learning centers, activity dice, and vocabulary skill stations allow students to actively practice word parts through hands-on games rather than passive worksheets. This kind of structured play helps students understand how words work, build meaning from unfamiliar vocabulary, and transfer those skills directly into reading comprehension and writing. By manipulating word parts, rolling dice, and collaborating with peers, students deepen their understanding while staying motivated and focused.\r\n\r\nThe highlighters, books, and reproducible activities support explicit instruction and repeated practice, which are essential for mastering academic vocabulary. Students use highlighters to identify prefixes and suffixes in authentic texts, strengthening close-reading skills and word analysis. The mentor texts and activity resources give me tools to differentiate instruction and meet students where they are. Even the snacks play an important role—helping maintain focus and energy during small-group instruction and extended learning blocks. Together, these supplies create a supportive, joyful learning environment where vocabulary growth feels accessible, meaningful, and fun.","fullyFundedDate":1761659876678,"projectUrl":"project/morphology-for-4th-graders/9805188/","projectTitle":"Morphology for 4th Graders","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McIlhone","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp464412_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x0,y194&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1604326327316","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msmcilhone"},{"teacherId":464412,"projectId":9532524,"letterContent":"Your donation provides essential materials that directly support strong instruction and meaningful learning in our 4th grade classroom. The poly folders help students keep their work organized and accessible, which is critical as they manage multiple subjects, drafts, and assignments. The copy paper ensures we have reliable access to daily learning materials—writing drafts, math practice, reading responses, and small-group resources—without interruption. When students have consistent access to basic supplies, instructional time is maximized and learning stays focused rather than disrupted by shortages.\r\n\r\nThe colored paper, cardstock, and clipboards add flexibility and engagement to instruction while supporting different learning needs. Bright paper and cardstock are used for anchor charts, graphic organizers, vocabulary tools, and hands-on activities that make learning visible and memorable. Clipboards allow students to work anywhere—at their desks, on the floor, or in small groups—promoting collaboration and movement while maintaining focus. In our 4th grade classroom, these folders will play a key role in helping students organize their thinking and take ownership of their writing. With two-pocket folders and prongs, students can keep drafts, graphic organizers, mentor texts, and feedback all in one place instead of losing papers in desks or backpacks. When materials are organized and accessible, students spend less time searching and more time actually writing. This structure is especially important for developing writers who need visual organization to build stamina, revise thoughtfully, and see writing as a process rather than a one-and-done task.\r\n\r\nThe professional texts, Simplify Your Writing Instruction and The Writing Rope, directly strengthen instruction by helping me provide explicit, student-centered writing lessons across subjects. These frameworks support clear modeling, purposeful practice, and meaningful feedback—things research shows have the greatest impact on student writing growth. With these resources, I can better meet the needs of diverse learners and make writing instruction more consistent, engaging, and effective. I used the materials to create individualized \"at-home calming kits\" for students who benefit from extra regulation support, ensuring they could practice coping strategies beyond the school day. In the classroom, I replenished our fidget bucket so students participating in SAIG groups, Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, and counseling sessions had immediate access to tools that support focus and emotional regulation. One powerful moment was during a small-group counseling session, when a student who typically struggles to stay engaged was able to remain calm, focused, and actively participate simply by having a sensory tool in hand. These tools have become a quiet but powerful support for learning and self-regulation.Students were genuinely excited and curious when they first saw the sensory tools. Many immediately expressed how the tools helped them feel calmer, more focused, or less anxious. For some students, simply knowing they had access to something that could help them manage big feelings increased their confidence and willingness to participate. Teachers also shared positive feedback, noting that students were more engaged and less dysregulated when using the tools appropriately. The excitement quickly turned into ownership, with students learning when and how to use the materials responsibly to support their learning.Moving forward, students will continue practicing self-regulation and coping strategies using these sensory tools during academic interventions, social-emotional lessons, and counseling sessions. We are working on helping students independently identify which tools work best for them and when to use them appropriately. These skills will support their growth not only in the classroom but also at home and in other settings. Thanks to this project, students are building lifelong skills for managing emotions, increasing focus, and advocating for their own needs.","fullyFundedDate":1765866335564,"projectUrl":"project/helping-hands-calmer-minds-sensory-too/9907625/","projectTitle":"Helping Hands, Calmer Minds: Sensory Tools for Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Thompson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9325573_orig.jpg?crop=1158,1158,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760377763378","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9325573"},{"teacherId":464412,"projectId":10003393,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our 4th grade classroom library now includes new and current graphic novels that students are genuinely excited to read.
