My students used the new incubators and journals to meticulously track the development process, acting as dedicated \"junior scientists.\" While we were heartbroken when none of the eggs successfully hatched into chicks this time, the experience turned into a powerful lesson in resilience. We spent hours researching potential causes, checking our data, and discussing how real-world biology doesn't always go according to plan.\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were absolutely buzzing with anticipation. I'll never forget the quiet awe in the room when we first used the egg candler; seeing the internal structures of the eggs made the science feel incredibly real to them. Even though we didn't get to welcome new feathered friends this round, that initial spark of wonder hasn't faded. Instead of feeling defeated, the students have channeled their disappointment into a renewed sense of determination.\r\nOur next steps are already in motion: we are preparing to try again! The students are currently collaborating on a \"Success Plan,\" using what they learned from the first attempt to adjust our incubator placement and monitoring schedule. The book bins we received were exactly what we needed for the kids to see the front book covers. As you can imagine, picture books for primary grades do not have big spines, so the bins I inherited with my classroom did not serve a purpose. We tried to make due, but the kids simply could not see what books were in the bins by looking at the spines. \r\n\r\nYour generous donations not only create more space for books, but also make it easier for my TK kids to reach the books and put them away in the appropriate color coded bin. \r\n\r\nSchool Districts provide essentials, but often items like book bins are considered non-essential - because in some minds a book shelf should work. However, book shelves are designed for you to see the spines of books, not book covers. These book bins are absolutely perfect for our class and we are so excited to have a much better organized book space. \r\n\r\nThe kids noticed immediately the change from black skinny bins with sideways facing books to colorful book bins with forward facing book covers. They now use the reading center at free choice because they can actually SEE what books they have to choose from. \r\n\r\nWe are hoping to create a librarian job, a book shelving job, and a library checker to our classroom jobs now that the kids are more invested in our classroom book selection. \r\nThank you so much for your help and support.","fullyFundedDate":1763474692704,"projectUrl":"project/book-bins-galore-sure-way-to-score/9638816/","projectTitle":"Book Bins Galore - Sure Way to Score!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Olinger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9566768_orig.jpg?crop=534,534,x0,y222&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718059892263","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9566768"},{"teacherId":9566768,"projectId":9636278,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your very generous donation to our Classroom Library, by supporting our wish to add new Social Emotional Books for our TK kids. With your generous donation, our classroom library has a whole bin of books that are interesting, age-appropriate, and provide many different ways to teach kids about their feelings. Research shows that if we can provide young kids with positive ways to work through and understand their emotions, they are much more apt to self-soothe, self-calm, and show less dramatic and big emotions later. With appropriate and meaningful Social-Emotional Books, my kids are much more excited to sit in our reading area and actually look at and discuss with their friends the pictures of how they're feeling. We have read many already and they are fun, relevant, and keep my students' attention. They may not be reading YET, but they are definitely interested in the pictures, the characters, and the fact that they can actually hold a book in their hands with pictures that they can relate to. \r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, we look forward to finding a book that relates to how one of our classmates is feeling and use it as an immediate resource.
