These delightful selections include beautifully illustrated picture books, engaging early readers, heartwarming stories, playful adventures, and laugh-out-loud favorites that capture the imagination of our youngest learners.\r\n\r\nThe Junior SSYRA books are more than just enjoyable stories—they are powerful tools for building foundational literacy skills. With these books, students practice identifying characters and setting, retelling events, making predictions, and recognizing story. The rich vocabulary and vibrant illustrations help develop comprehension while supporting young readers as they build confidence and fluency.\r\n\r\nIn our media center, reading is joyful, interactive, and full of discovery. Students participate in read-alouds, partner reading, and guided discussions. These early literacy experiences are essential in shaping positive reading habits that will last a lifetime.\r\n\r\nWe are already seeing meaningful moments of growth. One kindergarten student who was hesitant to choose books independently now eagerly selects Junior SSYRA titles during checkout. With the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, I've been able to access high-quality, developmentally appropriate resources designed specifically for early childhood and special education. These activities allow me to tailor instruction to each student's individual needs, whether we are working on communication, fine motor skills, early academics, or social-emotional learning. Because I don't have a set curriculum, these resources are invaluable in helping me create engaging lessons that meet my students exactly where they are. The past two months are the first months in years that I haven't had to use my personal money to purchase lessons and materials. \r\n\r\nI strongly dislike giving students worksheets, so I like to create interactive re-usable activities. Because of this, I go through A LOT of laminating sheets and velcro! Over the summer, I purchased a printer to keep at home for when I need to work in the evenings. I recently printed out a test sheet on my personal printer and discovered that since June, I have printed more than 3,000 pages! I have a printer at school as well, so I can only imagine that the amount of cardstock, laminating sheets, and velcro is astronomical! By laminating activities and adding Velcro, I can create hands-on, interactive materials that are durable and reusable. This allows students to manipulate pieces, make choices, and practice skills independently - something that is incredibly important for learners with disabilities. My students are especially excited to use these materials because they feel more like games than work, which increases motivation and focus.\r\n\r\nSeveral of my students who previously struggled to stay engaged have shown increased participation and confidence using these interactive tools. Being able to match, sort, and complete tasks with Velcro-backed pieces gives them a sense of success and independence. These resources have helped create a more organized, engaging, and supportive learning environment, and I am truly grateful to our donors for making this possible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1764602003578,"projectUrl":"project/made-with-love-and-a-little-lamination/9720268/","projectTitle":"Made with Love and a Little Lamination","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hughes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1961949_orig.jpg?crop=2084,2084,x231,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747145260819","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mariahhughes"},{"teacherId":4970100,"projectId":9530966,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding this project! This is the first time I have tried to do a Donor's Choose project and it has been a great experience. I really did not know that I would get this kind of support so quickly. I'm truly grateful for people who are able and willing to reach out and help teachers! \r\nThe dry erase markers are a very popular item so students can keep creating with a little bit more of a carefree approach at the end of class time. They love sitting on the carpet together and having drawing contests and practicing things they have learned during art. It has led to lots of laughter and extra art practice while being completely student driven. \r\nWith a few classes that have begun working on their sewing project I have seen such a revived engagement and excitement to try something new. Students have learned to work through struggles, overcome some frustrations, and have come out very proud and excited about what they are designing. \r\nIt is very exciting for me to be able to teach them a skill that may be under used, but can be beneficial to them in the future and also be fun for them in class. Art offers the kids a space to work and create without always being so concerned about something being correct. It gives them time to be abstract and just experiment with ideas.\r\nI can't wait to continue these sewing projects throughout the year with more classes and more grade levels. I think these 5th grade felt pizza slices and 4th grade cactus plants will be a huge hit and one I will continue with for years to come. I have had just as much fun as they have discussing and planning their projects. \r\nFrom new crayons, tape, staples, glue and more, we use tons of different items in the at room.
