Thanks to this support, we've been able to inspire students to develop a genuine love for reading by connecting their hard work and progress with purposeful, motivating incentives.\r\nThe materials and rewards purchased through this project have helped us build a stronger culture of literacy across grade levels. Students are more engaged, more excited to read, and more eager to challenge themselves. We've seen an increase in reading stamina, improved confidence, and a noticeable boost in students' willingness to discuss books, share recommendations, and celebrate reading milestones.\r\n\r\nBeyond academic gains, this project has helped create a positive, joyful environment around literacy—one where students feel recognized, encouraged, and proud of their growth. It has strengthened our efforts to support struggling readers while simultaneously empowering strong readers to push even further.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the generosity behind this project reminds our students that there are people who believe in them and want to invest in their future. That message alone has made a lasting difference.","fullyFundedDate":1762267576418,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-culture-of-literacy-through-r/9768488/","projectTitle":"Building a Culture of Literacy Through Reading Incentives","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rodriguez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5945509_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759687707470","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5945509"},{"teacherId":8682712,"projectId":9595569,"letterContent":"I send you all mine and my students heartfelt thank you!\r\n\r\nThey are having a wonderful time learning to use the camera. The technology helps students practice skills interactively, receive immediate feedback, and stay engaged through activities that are more hands-on and visual. It also allows me to better support students at different learning levels by adjusting lessons and practice to meet their individual needs.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students is being able to actively participate in lessons using the new technology. They enjoy how it makes learning feel more interactive and accessible, and many students are more motivated to stay on task when using these tools. Seeing their work come to life on the screen has been especially exciting for them.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled with focus or confidence have especially warmed up to this technology. Students who are shy or hesitant to participate are now more willing to try because they can work at their own pace and receive instant feedback. With the resources you have provided, we have already done so many fun and impactful activities. One of the favorite room transformations of the year is the \"Glow Room\". This year, I transformed our classroom to an \"'80's Roller Rink\" and students worked on rigorous puzzles comparing the Articles of Confederation and the U.S. Constitution. The room environment (everything neon, glow sticks, and black lights) makes it so much fun and students do not even realize how challenging the work is! It is a great day and I look forward to it each year.\r\n\r\nAnother activity (new this year) was a benchmark about how to amend the Constitution. Students worked in groups to create a new amendment and try to get it added to the Constitution. Using the foam dice from this grant, students needed to roll certain numbers to get the amendment through the proposal stage and then through the ratification stage. (True to reality, most amendments did not get ratified.)\r\n\r\nYour donations help teachers like me to provide meaningful, fun, and engaging activities for students. Changing up the environment of the room (room transformations) and adding in simulations of various benchmarks provide students with hands-on activities that not only help with understanding complicated concepts, but also help with long-term retention of the information. For example, when prior students see me dressed up for the '80's Roller Rink day, they exclaim \"today must be about how the Constitution fixed the weaknesses of the AOC! That was such a fun day!\" That is music to a teachers ears and you helped to make that happen. They often remark how comfortable the area is and there is now a rush to see who can use the area first.
