In both Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, students are practicing letter recognition, beginning sounds, and early writing through hands-on, engaging activities. One meaningful classroom moment occurred during small-group literacy time when students worked together to match letters to sounds and proudly identified letters in their own names. many for the first time.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were filled with excitement and curiosity. They gathered around as we unpacked everything, eagerly asking questions and wanting to explore the materials right away. Several students who are typically reserved became immediate participants, showing increased confidence and enthusiasm. Their reactions reinforced how powerful engaging, developmentally appropriate resources are for early learners.\r\n\r\nThese materials have now become a core part of our daily routines. Students transition more independently through literacy centers, collaborate with peers, and take greater ownership of their learning. The resources allow me to differentiate instruction, supporting students who are still developing foundational skills while extending learning for those ready for more advanced challenges.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students include building on these early literacy skills through guided reading, phonological awareness activities, and cross-curricular connections that integrate writing, speaking, and listening. As students continue strengthening their letter knowledge, they are developing the confidence and readiness needed for future academic success.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us truly build bright futures, one letter at a time. We all know that our kids are easily motivated, especially with TAKIS and HOT CHEETOS. Your commitment to help our school is very much appreciated. The donation you made to our school is being used across all grade levels to motivate students to complete some grade level challenges. \r\nKindergarten-Our kids are challenged to count to 100 and once they accomplish this, they receive a treat of their choice. I go in once a month to the classrooms, and the teachers have already tested the kids and we call it the 100 CLUB. We call out the kid's names and they come to front of class and they cheer and receive a treat of their choice. As I am walking around campus kids are always saying to me, Mr. Krause I can count to 100. Maybe they can, or maybe they can't, but it is motivating them to try. At this time we have 10 kids who can count to 100.\r\nFirst Grade- I have created a challenge involving 3 levels (I like to make it like a video game). Level 1 is count to 100, Level 2 is Doubles FACT to 20, and our grade level end-of-year expectation Math Facts within 10 with automaticity. I have no kids currently, as it is too early in the year, but a couple kids are close. I will be retesting next month. \r\nSecond Grade- I have created a challenge involving 3 levels (I like to make it like a video game). Level 1 is Doubles FACT to 20, Level 2 is Math Facts within 10, and our grade level end-of-year expectation is Math FACTS within 20 with automaticity. I have 5 kids who have completed the challenge. It is very early in the year, and I will be retesting next month. \r\nThird Grade-Math FACT challenge will be starting next month. At this time of the year they are creating strategies to solve Math FACTS up to 12 x 12.\r\nFourth Grade- We have a computer program called ALEKS and within it is QUICK TABLES. This program challenges kids to learn Math FACTS within 5 seconds. I am happy to report with your donation we are sitting at 58% completing their FACTS. This is an end-of-year expectation, so we are on track to get a large majority done. \r\nFifth Grade - We have a computer program called ALEKS and within it is QUICK TABLES. This program challenges kids to learn Math FACTS within 5 seconds. I am happy to report with your donation we are sitting at 80% completing their FACTS. \r\nIn recognizing the kids in Kindergarten, First, and Second I bring them on our Pinecrest Elementary News and they are so excited to be seen on TV for their accomplishments. For our Third through Fifth Graders I call their names out during lunch so they can receive their treat and certificate. The kids clap for them and they smile with pride. \r\nAs you can see the donation from Donors Choose has played a huge role in our school's progress relating to Math and the expectations. In Kindergarten I will be going in monthly to see who can count to 100. First and Second, I am planning to go in quarterly as I test every kids individually. Third grade starts ALEKS, Quick Tables next month. Fourth and Fifth I monitor daily and send reports to teachers to encourage them to get it done. The deadline for them is December 31st. On January 1st we switch over to the ALEKS lessons and by the end of the year if any kid has 100% of lessons done, they will receive their certificate of completion and your donated treat. I would love to have your support again next year.
