We started with simple spindle turning. A little project which they like is turning a mallet. Then we follow this up with turning a snowman (picture included). After they get good at that, we then turn a simple bowl (Picture included). The pre school gave us a couple of bags full of children's blocks. On their own they don't look like much but glued together, we now have a bowl blank and the nicest thing is those blocks are oak, which is a nice wood to turn. However oak is a hard wood so the chisels get dull quite fast. If you have ever tried to cut a tomato with a dull knife you will know how it feels to turn a piece of wood with a dull chisel. Not fun, and not safe.\r\nThis is where the donor game in. I bought a tool sharpening system. (see picture). Now the students can turn their projects safely and successfully. Another added bonus is I have started teaching some of the students how to sharpen the tools, which is another skill itself. Your generosity has already made a meaningful impact. Students were excited and curious the moment they saw the new materials — especially the cooperative games, fidgets, and affirmation stickers. They immediately started exploring the tools and asking how they could use them during sessions. It created a natural opening for conversations about stress, friendships, emotional regulation, and healthy coping.\r\n\r\nSince then, the counseling space has transformed into a warm, supportive environment where students can regulate, reflect, and connect. Journals have become a favorite for processing big feelings, and the CBTrip games have encouraged teamwork and perspective-taking during small groups. Many students have also gravitated toward the calming manipulatives and snacks during high-stress parts of the day, helping them stay grounded and ready to return to learning.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, we are now expanding our counseling lessons to include goal-setting, peer problem-solving, and emotional literacy activities using these new tools. This project has offered my middle schoolers not only coping strategies, but also a sense of belonging and confidence during a vulnerable stage of development. These resources have made lessons more interactive and meaningful, helping students better understand concepts while staying excited about learning.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting changes has been use of laminated activity cards and reusable practice sheets. My students love being able to write, erase and try again, which has built their confidence and encourage them to take risks without fear of making mistakes. They enjoy building, moving, and organizing objects while following clear audio guidance. This method keeps students, especially those who get easily distracted or anxious, more focused and calm. The added rhythm and sound elements increase motivation and enjoyment in math lessons, resulting in better engagement and retention.\r\nParticularly, students with attention or language challenges have responded positively. The posters are being used as reference tools during lessons, helping students visualize and recall important information quickly. The pocket organizers keep materials neat and accessible, giving students a sense of independence and responsibility. One student even commented, \"Now I don't lose my papers anymore—it feels like my desk is a little library!\"\r\n\r\nNext, we plan to use these resources in our upcoming unit on habitats and ecosystems. Students will continue to build projects that combine science and creativity, using the lanterns and posters as inspiration for presenting their ideas. Many of them immediately pointed out the sea creatures above them and gathered around the aquarium to observe the colorful fish swimming inside. It was a magical moment that sparked joy and curiosity for learning.\r\n\r\nSince then, we have been using the aquarium and themed decorations to make our lessons more engaging. For example, during reading time, students enjoy ocean-themed books while sitting under the \"waves,\" and in science, they've been learning about marine life and ecosystems by observing the fish and creating their own underwater habitat projects. The decorations and aquarium have helped bring abstract concepts to life, making learning both interactive and fun.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to expand this theme into a hands-on research project where students will create mini-reports and artwork about different sea animals. They will also design \"fact bubbles\" to hang around the classroom, turning our learning space into an interactive ocean exhibit.
