There has been a lot of movement in my classroom, especially since I am still trying to adjust to my first year, but your donations really helped out my classroom a lot.\r\n\r\nWhen my students saw me with the box of new books, a lot of them quickly smiled, and in less than 10 minutes, most of those books were already checked out by my students, hence the reason I couldn't take as many pictures as those books are now checked out by the students. Most of them were especially thrilled to see the Harry Potter books in Spanish, as they have only found them in English prior.\r\n\r\nAs previously mentioned, I teach dual language 5th ELA and SLA. Due to the limited time I have with my students, there is not always a time for us to have independent reading time; but, at least once a week students may choose to read a book if they had finished all their other work for my class. Occasionally, I would ask students to write me a summary or to find the theme of a book, which was a skill we were working on throughout our first semester. Through the summaries, I have noticed growth in my students to achieve the 5th grade standards of finding theme, using details to support their ideas, and summarizing. \r\n\r\nMost of my students are Spanish dominant, but I still want to enhance their English language proficiencies. Because I surveyed my students at the beginning of the year, I discovered that majority of them appreciated graphic novels. Thanks to your generosity, I was able to provide graphic novels for my classroom library. Those were my most popular books yet. As I walked around the classroom, I noticed students grabbing the English graphic novels as well. Many told me they used the images to help them read, which is a skill I have thought them to use when reading an English book, or any complex book that may have images as a support. Because of this skill, many of my students actually improved on their middle of the year tests. \r\n\r\nLastly, the stools. Originally I wanted these stools for small group time, or during interventions. However, a lot of my students actually ended up liking them, and ask me to use it as flexible seating options. They also used the stools during group work, and they like going together to the library to work on a given assignment. \r\n\r\nOnce again, my class and I really appreciate all you have done for our classroom this year. They enjoy the books and the seats, and I am proud of the improvements that they are making. The day the boxes started arriving I placed them on the table in the back. Each day the sun was shining and the kids came in complaining they had nothing to play with outside. Finally once the last box arrived I opened it in front of my homeroom. They were so incredibly excited as volleyball is a sport they always want to talk about. I am blessed to be apart of a volleyball community having a child who has fallen in love. We immediately grabbed the electric pump from the gym teacher and took them out to recess. What I didn't realize is how jealous all the kids would be when they saw my homeroom coming out. I quickly explained to the whole middle school that this was a gift from kind people for all of them to play together. \r\n\r\nStudents from different homerooms and different backgrounds began to laugh and play together. The teachers had been trying to figure out how to make it happen all year. The simple act of a volleyball in their hands brought them together. I went out the first week to correct some passing, show some student show to set, and to show off my high school volleyball skills :). They had never seen nor played don't break the ice. The sheer giggles that were had not only reached my students but this wonderful adult. Thank you for being amazing. This has made a huge difference! Kids eagerly explore the pages daily, naming objects and trying new words. Our English learners beam with pride seeing Spanish celebrated, while everyone joins in with excitement. Your gift has turned curiosity about Spanish into confident, joyful practice.\r\n\r\nYou might wonder how a picture dictionary teaches so much. The bright photos next to each word help kids grasp meanings instantly—no translations needed. They quickly learn everyday terms for animals, foods, colors, family, and actions. Simple phrases let them build short sentences, like pointing to a picture and saying \"El perro corre.\" It all sticks because it's visual and fun, boosting vocabulary and sparking real conversations.\r\n\r\nIn library class, the book is always open! During choice time, kids cluster around it, quizzing each other and acting out words. In lessons, we play games—I say a Spanish word, and they find the picture or mimic the action. One shy English learner now confidently teaches peers numbers and greetings, while several native English speakers sprinkle Spanish phrases into play. The room buzzes with more connection and \"¡Hola!\" every day.\r\n\r\nThis project grew vocabulary, listening skills, and cultural pride across the class. Your gift has helped so many children feel excited about opening a book every day.\r\n\r\nLots of you love reading too, but you might not know how these short, silly books with simple drawings build real reading skills. The speech bubbles show exactly who's talking, so kids practice reading with different voices and expressions—like yelling excitedly when there's an exclamation point! The big faces on characters help them spot feelings and guess what's next in the story. Short sentences with repeated words make sounding out easier, and the humor keeps them turning pages while learning about things like friendship and handling big emotions.\r\n\r\nIn our library, reading these books feels like playtime. I read one aloud and we all act out the Pigeon's wild pleas or Gerald's worried looks, getting lots of laughs. Then kids grab partners to take turns reading the dialogue, using funny voices and pointing to who's speaking. Some students have really taken off—one bouncy boy who got frustrated with longer books now reads full Elephant and Piggie stories without stopping, and a quiet kid who hardly joined in now jumps up to perform the Pigeon's dramatic parts for everyone. It's so fun to see them light up over these stories. You've helped turn kids who didn't love reading into kids who can't put a book down. \r\n\r\nA lot of you love books yourselves, but you might wonder how these goofy, picture-packed stories actually help kids learn. It's pretty cool—the big, colorful illustrations help kids figure out what's happening with the characters, the setting, and the action. The pictures give clues for harder words and help them guess what comes next. The comic-style pages teach them how stories flow from one part to the next. Plus, because the books are so funny, kids stay interested the whole time. Some are even starting to draw their own little comics now! \r\n\r\nReading time in our library is full of energy these days. We kick off with me reading aloud. Then they pair up or read in small groups, pointing at the pictures and telling the story in their own words. A few kids have really come out of their shells—one super-wiggly boy who never sat still for a book now finishes whole chapters on his own and grins ear to ear.
