Unfortunately, we have been out of school due to winter conditions for some time now, but finally got back in! Upon coming back, our topic has been the study of figurative language. This is where your donation has helped my students incredibly! I am very much the kind of teacher who wants to help my students understand their content as it relates to the real world. What better way to teach figurative language than to incorporate it with music! \r\nThe headphones we received came in just in time for my students to have what they called the \"best\" way to come back from their winter break. I was able to incorporate modern day music into their lessons by having them listening for figurative language, identifying what type of figurative language was being used, and interpreting what the artist was trying to convey. The students loved getting to listen to music as they were \"working\". Without your donation, we would have never been able to incorporate the actual music during this lesson. I was also able to allow my students to look up their own favorite songs in order to teach their classmates and myself about the figurative language they were able to identify in those. \r\nOnce again, thank you for your donation. Because of you, my students felt like they had a week of \"chill\" class as they would say because they were able to get in their own space, with their own type of music, and still learn and explore the topic of figurative language.","fullyFundedDate":1766347244525,"projectUrl":"project/hear-it-achieve-it/9966332/","projectTitle":"Hear It, Achieve It!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Burton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10388356"},{"teacherId":10183536,"projectId":9869932,"letterContent":"Providing free snacks to less fortunate kindergarteners in a high-poverty county has a powerful impact on their mental and emotional well-being. At five and six years old, children are still learning how to regulate their emotions, and hunger can make that process much harder. When students come to school without adequate food, they may feel anxious, irritable, embarrassed, or distracted. A simple, consistent snack helps meet a basic need, allowing children to feel safe and cared for in their classroom environment. Knowing they will receive food during the school day reduces stress and uncertainty, especially for students who may experience food insecurity at home. This sense of stability builds trust between the child and the school, increases feelings of belonging, and helps students focus on friendships and positive social interactions instead of worrying about when they will eat next.\r\nAcademically, free snacks directly support learning and engagement. Young children need steady nutrition to maintain energy, concentration, and memory. When their bodies are fueled properly, they are better able to participate in lessons, follow directions, and complete tasks. Hunger can lead to headaches, fatigue, and difficulty focusing, which makes it harder for kindergarteners to grasp foundational skills like letter recognition, phonics, counting, and number sense. By ensuring students have access to snacks, schools remove a major barrier to learning. Students are more alert during reading and math instruction, more willing to participate in group activities, and better able to persist through challenging tasks. In this way, something as simple as a daily snack becomes an essential support that strengthens not only students' health, but also their confidence, emotional regulation, and academic growth.","fullyFundedDate":1762731515457,"projectUrl":"project/everyone-gets-a-snack/9869932/","projectTitle":"Everyone Gets a Snack!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sowder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10183536_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1774574435789","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10183536"},{"teacherId":10183536,"projectId":9767715,"letterContent":"ite erase boards and markers have a powerful and positive impact in a kindergarten classroom. At this young age, children learn best through hands-on, interactive experiences, and whiteboards provide exactly that. Instead of only watching the teacher model a skill, students can actively participate in their own learning. When children use individual whiteboards, they are more engaged because they can write, draw, erase, and try again without fear of making mistakes. The simple act of being able to erase easily builds confidence. Kindergarteners are still developing fine motor skills, and dry erase markers help strengthen hand muscles and improve pencil grip in a low-pressure way.\r\nWhiteboards are especially helpful for early literacy instruction. During phonics lessons, students can practice writing letters, sight words, and simple sentences. When learning letter formation, children can trace, copy, and rewrite letters multiple times. If they form a letter incorrectly, they can quickly erase and fix it. This immediate correction supports muscle memory and helps students develop proper writing habits. Whiteboards also encourage participation during whole-group reading activities. For example, students can write the beginning sound of a picture, draw a quick illustration of a story event, or practice spelling CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. Because every child has a board, every child is involved, not just the ones who raise their hands.\r\nIn math, whiteboards are equally impactful. Kindergarten students use them to practice writing numbers, solving simple addition and subtraction problems, drawing shapes, and showing their thinking with pictures or tally marks. Teachers can quickly assess understanding by having students hold up their boards. This provides immediate feedback and allows the teacher to address misunderstandings right away. \r\n\r\nOverall, white erase boards and markers support academic growth, build confidence, strengthen fine motor skills, and increase engagement. They transform lessons into interactive experiences where every child can participate, practice, and succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1762266328640,"projectUrl":"project/write-erase/9767715/","projectTitle":"Write, Erase!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sowder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10183536_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1774574435789","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10183536"},{"teacherId":8070015,"projectId":10002651,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity and support of \"Kind Hearts and Creative Hands.\" Because of you, my students have been able to use these new materials to create Valentine's cards, crafts, and class projects that focus on kindness, creativity, and community.
