Recently, during a third grade engineering design lesson, students worked together on the rug to plan and sketch their LEGO Spike Essential amusement park rides before building. Sitting in a shared space allowed them to easily turn, talk, share ideas, and problem-solve as a team. One student even said, \"It feels like we're real engineers meeting to make a plan!\"\r\n\r\nWhen the rug was first rolled out, the reaction was immediate and unforgettable. Students literally gasped when they walked into the room that morning. Several asked if it was \"really for us,\" and others couldn't wait to find their spot. There was a noticeable sense of pride and ownership right away — they understood that someone, somewhere, cared enough about their learning space to make it better.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the rug will play an important role in our upcoming storytelling and coding unit using ScratchJr — a favorite in our STEAM rotation. Students will use the rug as a collaborative planning area where they can map out storyboards, act out sequences, and share feedback before bringing their ideas to life on their iPads. This shared workspace encourages creativity, communication, and confidence as students prepare to present their digital stories to classmates.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our classroom now has a welcoming space where students can gather, collaborate, and grow together. Thank you for helping us build not just a better classroom — but a stronger learning community.","fullyFundedDate":1762265316625,"projectUrl":"project/where-ideas-gather-a-rug-for-our-steam/9674150/","projectTitle":"Where Ideas Gather: A Rug for Our STEAM Space","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5484143_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1535428280736","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/stuart-clark"},{"teacherId":10051753,"projectId":9401514,"letterContent":"I can't thank you enough for your generous support in helping our 4th grade classroom receive our beautiful new rug! The rug has made our classroom feel so cozy and welcoming — a place where everyone loves to gather, learn, and connect. Whether we're reading together, sharing ideas, or just taking a quiet moment, the rug brings comfort and joy to our classroom community.
