Students go there to check in with themselves, reflect on their emotions, and choose a strategy that helps them return to class feeling regulated and ready to learn. I just thought it was very cute to see her finally be able to 'see' her brother again\" \"Amari is a really strong character not just because of her powers but because of how she faces all the prejudices and doubts people throw at her\"\r\n\r\nIt was clear that students were engaged and could relate to the book. Some students even continued the series! \r\n\r\nI am thrilled to make this my new summer reading book. In previous years we have read The Outsiders, which of course is a canonical book that students love, but I am glad to have shifted to a book for the 21st century that engages, empowers, and mirrors my students' lived experiences.
