Many of my students are part of an early intervention Pre-K program, and these resources have given them meaningful, hands-on opportunities to build foundational skills. During our daily shelf work time, students independently choose activities that strengthen early literacy, problem-solving, and fine motor skills. I've watched students who were once hesitant now eagerly select books, explore STEM tools, and proudly share their learning with their classmates.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate and genuine. Their eyes lit up as they explored new books and hands-on activities designed just for them. These resources have helped students stay engaged longer, work more independently, and develop confidence in their abilities. For many of them, these are their first positive experiences feeling successful with reading and STEM, and that confidence carries into other parts of their day.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, my students are building a strong foundation that will support them throughout their educational journey. We will continue using these materials to strengthen early literacy, encourage critical thinking, and foster independence. Your kindness has not only provided tools, but also opportunities for growth, pride, and a love of learning. Thank you for believing in my students and helping empower them during such an important stage of their development.","fullyFundedDate":1700349274121,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-my-students-with-reading-and/8013361/","projectTitle":"Empowering My Students with Reading and STEM Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Chali","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9357531_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770746997689","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9357531"},{"teacherId":10235978,"projectId":9671296,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom. You helped to buy us a utility cart earlier in the year and it has made an incredible difference in how my students are able to experience science this year.\r\n\r\nOur school is currently in a temporary classroom situation after losing part of our building due to zoning issues. We are now renting space at the Boys and Girls Club, which means that every single day we must completely pack up our classroom at dismissal. While we are so grateful to still have a place to learn, this setup makes hands-on science especially challenging. Without a permanent space to store materials, it would be easy to rely only on videos and textbooks instead of real experiments and investigations. \r\n\r\nBecause of you, we don't have to do that.\r\n\r\nThe utility cart has become our mobile science lab. It allows us to organize, store, and quickly move all of our materials so that hands-on learning can still happen every week. Earlier in the year, we used the cart for the first time while studying plant adaptations through a celery and food dye experiment. When my students saw the cart with the celery on it, they were immediately excited and curious about what it would be used for. This excitement motivated them in our lab which helped them to observe how water moves through a plant in real life. All of this was possible because I had a place to store the celery overnight to let it do it's thing. \r\n\r\nNow, whenever they see the cart come out, they know that engaging, hands-on science is about to happen. It has become a visible symbol in our classroom that exploration and discovery are part of our day. This routine helps the students engage in content and gives motivates them to take academic risks. \r\n\r\nBefore winter break, the cart helped us store materials for several festive science labs. Students engineered candy cane sleds, measured cookies before and after soaking them in milk, and designed snowball launchers. The cart made the whole thing possible! I was able to organize all the supplies on the cart the day before and store them out of the room overnight. That way, my students had more time to hypothesize, problem-solve, test, and improve their designs instead of wasting time waiting while materials were unpacked and distributed.\r\n\r\nWe have also used the cart to store science station materials that help students explore different forms of energy. Most recently, it has allowed me to organize supplies for investigating collisions using marbles, pool noodle ramps, and pull-back cars. These hands-on activities allow students to experience force and motion in a tangible way that will support their learning when we read about it next week. \r\n\r\nDuring the next few months of school, students will be building simple Rube Goldberg contraptions, creating camera obscuras, constructing models of the human eye, and exploring erosion through hands-on models of glaciers, rivers, and wind-blown landscapes. The cart will keep all of our materials organized and ready so learning can happen efficiently in our temporary space.\r\n\r\nAt the end of the school year, I will be able to say that I gave my students amble opportunities to be scientists, engineers, and problem solvers despite our temporary classroom challenges. The utility cart made that possible, but it wouldn't be ours without your kindness. Moreover, your generosity has ensured that science in our classroom is something students do, not just something they watch or read about.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our students and helping to make meaningful, hands-on science possible.","fullyFundedDate":1759444368877,"projectUrl":"project/stem-on-wheels-bringing-efficiency-to-o/9671296/","projectTitle":"STEM on Wheels: Bringing Efficiency to Our Shared Space","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. MacDougall","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10235978_orig.jpg?crop=651,651,x0,y84&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759032057359","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10235978"},{"teacherId":9360591,"projectId":10019802,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, \"Hands-On Learning for Growing Minds.\" When the supplies arrived, my students were so excited. This makes hands-on science more difficult to mangage and requires that I must be very intentional about what kind of projects we can embark on. \r\n\r\nYour donation helped ensure that, even in this temporary setup, my students can still DO science instead of only reading about it. Furthermore, these supplies have boosted student engagment in inspiring ways. Whenever I bring out new supplies from your donations, students are immediately curious and eager to explore. \r\n\r\nFor example, my students have used the 100 pack of Super Tips with zeal! They have used them to work on thank you notes, regular science journaling, and small assignments. Most notably, however, they created vibrant posters while studying plant and animal adaptations. They designed their own creatures and explained how specific adaptations would help them survive. The creativity and scientific reasoning they demonstrated were incredible, and the visuals they created helped them to clearly communicate complex ideas.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, the magnifying glasses and plastic beakers were essential during our plant adaptations investigation. Students examined celery up close, noticing tiny details in its structure. Then, we placed stalks in food-colored water in the beakers to observe how the xylem transports water. Afterward, students dissected the celery and used the magnifying glasses to study the dyed structures. It was an unforgettable way to study adapations. One student exclaimed that he was \"so jazzed about the celery, that he may not be able to sleep at night.\"\r\n\r\nNext, the Steve Spangler energy sticks were an instant favorite. My students used these devices to explore how electric current flows. Some were amazed to discover that their own bodies conduct electricity and all were esctastic to find that they could form \"human circuits\" with a group of classmates. \r\n\r\nSimilarly, the tuning forks created energetic engagment as they helped us explore sound energy. My students observed how tapping them with different force changed the nature of the vibrations and the sound produced. These simple tools led to rich conversations about how sound travels, and helped my students make many authentic connections to everyday life, such as the singing bowls used by one student's mother. \r\n\r\nRight now, we are using pull-back cars to study collisions and mechanical energy. Soon, my students will design and test their own car safety mechanisms, such as seatbelts and shock absorbing seats by using the Hall's carriages as model car frames. This assignment will help my students develop important engineering practices. \r\n\r\nIn our science stations, the flashlights and mirrors are helping students investigate how light interacts with different materials. These supplies will be used again next month to explore how the eye processes what we see. Finally, in April, we will use playdough and air-dry clay to model fossil layers and erosion patterns as we study Earth's processes in a hands-on way.\r\n\r\nAlthough I was not able to obtain every item on our original list, I used part of the funding to purchase static cling whiteboards for math. These have become indispensable. Students work in partners on vertical whiteboard spaces to solve higher level math tasks. This has noticeably increased their confidence, collaboration abilities, and willingness to take risks in problem-solving.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my classroom is filled with opportunities for students to observe, test, create, and discuss. These supplies have allowed my students to experience STEM learning in ways that are memorable, meaningful, and joyful - even in a temporary classroom space.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students a classroom full of discovery.","fullyFundedDate":1759043277048,"projectUrl":"project/steam-rising-helping-students-thrive-af/9671301/","projectTitle":"Steam Rising: Helping Students Thrive After Losing Our Building","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. MacDougall","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10235978_orig.jpg?crop=651,651,x0,y84&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759032057359","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10235978"},{"teacherId":10235978,"projectId":9770129,"letterContent":"Hi Jensen Family! We want to personally thank you for the generous donation of the large, mobile whiteboard. This gift has made a daily, visible difference in how we learn together. Futhermore, I am inspired by your kindness every time I roll it into place.\r\n\r\nBefore this, we were using a DIY board that constantly \"ghosted\" old writing and made it hard for us to display thinking efficiently. The new whiteboard is not only a huge functional improvement, but the fact that it is mobile has completely changed how we use our space. It's sturdiness and mobility offers so many possiblities for us. It has also freed up the old chart cart that I was using, which now displays class jobs, our daily routines, math group assignments, ticket reward jars, and more. This has made it easier for students to know what to expect and take ownership in the classroom.\r\n\r\nSometimes, I roll our new, amazing whiteboard to the front of the room so we can work through math problems together while students are in their seats. Other times, I move it to the back of the room, where students gather on the floor. There, the board becomes the center of our morning meeting prompts, interactive math lessons, mental math talks, SEL brainstorming, and science discussions.\r\n\r\nMoreover, one of the most special changes is how students now use the board themselves. It has become a privilege to come up and work through math thinking on the whiteboard. Because the whiteboard has writing space on both sides, we can roll it out and multiple students can solve problems at once. I notice that they are more are eager to show their strategies, explain their reasoning, and learn from one another.\r\n\r\nThis whiteboard truly moves with our learning throughout the day, supporting discussion, collaboration, and student voice in ways the old setup never could. Thank you for giving our classroom such a practical and meaningful tool, and one that will stay with CMCS in whatever spaces that we grow into in the years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1759449765811,"projectUrl":"project/ideas-in-motion-a-mobile-whiteboard-for/9770129/","projectTitle":"Ideas in Motion: a Mobile Whiteboard for Student Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. MacDougall","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10235978_orig.jpg?crop=651,651,x0,y84&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759032057359","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10235978"},{"teacherId":7588639,"projectId":9321801,"letterContent":"I am so grateful for the books and materials you provided me. Because of you, our classroom library now includes a beautiful variety of stories that represent many cultures, backgrounds, and voices. Your donation has given my students more than just books—it has given them the gift of connection, understanding, and a stronger sense of identity.\r\n\r\nThe moment the books arrived, the excitement in the classroom was undeniable. Students eagerly explored the new titles, pointing out characters who looked like them or shared similar experiences. For some, it was the first time they saw themselves reflected in a book. For others, it opened a window into a culture they hadn't known much about. These stories are helping us learn not just to read, but to understand one another more deeply.\r\n\r\nRepresentation in literature matters, and your support has made sure my students feel seen, valued, and included. Reading stories that celebrate diverse cultures, languages, family structures, and traditions has sparked meaningful conversations in our classroom. Students are asking questions, sharing their own stories, and showing more curiosity and empathy toward others. These books are helping to build a community rooted in respect and appreciation for our differences.\r\n\r\nYour donation has also enriched our academic growth. These engaging books are encouraging a love for reading in all of my students, even those who have struggled with literacy in the past. When students connect with what they read, they become more motivated and confident in their abilities. That's exactly what I'm seeing each day during our independent reading and storytime sessions.\r\n\r\nBeyond the academic and cultural benefits, these books have brought so much joy. Students gravitate toward the reading corner more often, and there's always a buzz of excitement when someone discovers a new favorite story. It's amazing to watch them proudly share what they've read with friends, or recommend a book they think someone else will love. Our classroom feels more vibrant and inclusive because of what you helped bring into it.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the importance of diverse representation and for investing in our students' growth. Your support has made a lasting impact—not only this year, but for many years to come, as these books will continue to be loved and shared by future classes.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your kindness, your generosity, and the positive change you've helped create in our classroom.
