During our reading and writing block, students choose a seating option that helps them focus best—some curl up with a book in a cozy seat, while others use the rolling desk to move to a quiet corner to work on their writing. One of my favorite moments was during a recent small group activity when a student who typically struggles to stay focused chose a flexible seat and was able to stay engaged and complete their entire assignment independently. It was such a proud moment!\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was unforgettable. Students' eyes lit up, and there were lots of \"oohs\" and \"ahs\" as they explored the different seating options. In our preschool autism classroom, these little fingers often have a hard time coordinating their fine motor capabilities with their eyes (eye hand coordination). Having access to a student focused classroom computer where they must learn to use a keyboard and mouse is providing these students with valuable life skills that will also help them to develop more refined fine motor coordination. The little learners are always so excited to engage in their new computer activities that they often run to the work station and forget that they should walk in class, I guess that's a good thing to get in trouble for!
