The arrival of the disc golf equipment has provided a much-needed variety to our Lifetime Wellness rotation. When we first set up the targets, the reaction was a mix of genuine curiosity from some and a \"wait and see\" attitude from others. Realistically, about a third of my students have fully caught the \"disc golf bug\" and spend their time trying to perfect their throwing technique (including on the weekends at local parks here in Las Vegas). For the rest of the class, while it may not be their new favorite hobby, they have appreciated having a low-pressure alternative to traditional high-energy sports. It has given everyone a way to be outside and moving without the intensity of a contact sport.\r\n\r\nWe are currently using the targets for skill-building stations. Students rotate through, practicing their short-range putting and learning the basic physics of how a disc flies. A specific moment that stands out wasn't a \"miracle shot,\" but rather a group of students who usually struggle with team sports. They spent the entire period quietly challenged by the target, celebrating the small wins every time they hit the metal chains. It provided a calm, focused environment that we don't always get during more chaotic gym activities. Another notable moment, on the flip side, was seeing some of my typically \"confident\" athletes laughing at themselves when their throw went wide off-course. It showed them that they don't know everything about sports (yet)!\r\n\r\nNext, we will be using these portable targets to create a temporary tournament course on our school's green space. This will allow students to practice navigating different distances and obstacles, while competing with each other and against their own best scores. Whether they become lifelong players or just enjoy a different way to spend a Saturday morning, these resources have successfully expanded our curriculum. Thank you for providing the variety that allows me to reach a wider range of student interests and keeping our Nevada classroom active.","fullyFundedDate":1769088708692,"projectUrl":"project/fairways-to-fitness-integrating-disc-go/10020547/","projectTitle":"Fairways to Fitness: Integrating Disc Golf Into Lifetime Wellness","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Bachman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10160624"},{"teacherId":10403376,"projectId":10016193,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in providing spray paint and gloves for our classroom. When the materials arrived, my students were incredibly excited and eager to begin. Many of them had never worked with spray paint before, so simply unboxing and exploring the tools felt like a special moment. Since then, we have been using the supplies to dive into spray paint art techniques, learning how to control movement, layer colors, and create unique textures. One memorable moment was watching students experiment with blending and stenciling for the first time—they were amazed at what they could create and immediately began sharing ideas and encouraging one another.\r\n\r\nMy students are highly engaged in this project and are developing a wide range of skills. Physically, they are learning control, precision, and proper technique when using spray paint, all while practicing safety with the gloves you provided. At the same time, they are gaining knowledge about different art styles and the cultural significance behind them. These lessons have sparked creativity and confidence, especially among students who may not have previously seen themselves as artists.\r\n\r\nYour support has truly made a lasting impact in our classroom, opening up new opportunities for creativity and learning that would not have been possible without you.","fullyFundedDate":1768521873173,"projectUrl":"project/from-the-streets-to-the-stars-spray-art/10016193/","projectTitle":"From the Streets to the Stars: Spray Art Explorations","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tarwater","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10403376"},{"teacherId":10400513,"projectId":10001859,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your generosity and for supporting our classroom. Because of you, my students are experiencing reading and writing in ways that are hands-on, creative, and engaging.\r\n\r\nWe have already put the materials to great use. During a recent lesson inspired by the myth of Icarus, students used the LEGOs to design and build new wings for Icarus. After building, they wrote original poems imagining his new flight and reflecting on how his story might change. This project allowed students to combine creativity with literary analysis, and many produced some of their most thoughtful writing of the year. We've also been using the headphones to support self-paced learning, giving students access to audiobooks and helping struggling readers engage more confidently with grade-level texts. Additionally, the Post-it chart paper has been essential for creating anchor charts that help us track and consolidate new reading strategies together as a class.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials—especially the LEGOs—their excitement was immediate. Even now, whenever the LEGOs come out, the energy in the room shifts. Students who are typically quiet become more involved, and everyone is eager to participate and share their ideas.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue building on this momentum through our project-based learning units. In our current work, they are developing their writing and will soon create new projects that combine design and storytelling. They will revise their work, collaborate with peers, and present their ideas using both written and visual elements. These next steps will help them grow as readers, writers, and critical thinkers.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make our classroom a place where creativity and learning truly come together.","fullyFundedDate":1768186619459,"projectUrl":"project/read-it-write-it-build-it-an-ela-make/10001859/","projectTitle":"Read It. While a number of students are crushed by the plot, it has encouraged a level of critical thinking, inquiry, and empathy that I am proud to see developing in my classroom.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe physical books have been great because they cut down on screen time and allow students to move with the text: they love grabbing a bean bag chair, floor cushion, or a peer to curl up with while they read. I have also noticed that students are much more likely to pick up the book and search for information than they were to scroll through the text on the Chromebook. They even help their peers by cuing them to specific chapters/pages/paragraphs. Giving students the ability to physically interact with the text has increased their participation and engagement.\r\n\r\nI have had a few students borrow the graphic novel to help them reinforce their understanding of what we read in class. A parent even went out and bought a personal copy for their child! The lesson-planning book especially helped me develop pre-reading lessons to give students context for the book's content.\r\n\r\nOverall, this unit has been a great success, and I cannot wait to see student use the rest of our materials to complete their end-of-unit project.","fullyFundedDate":1768160610772,"projectUrl":"project/tkam-unit/9999058/","projectTitle":"TKAM Unit","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Thiel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8170193_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1685891592129","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/thiel"},{"teacherId":8138663,"projectId":10003253,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students have been able to take their projects to a whole new level. The new tools made cutting cardboard significantly easier, cleaner, and more precise, allowing students to focus more on their designs rather than struggling with materials. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail improved noticeably.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, the students were genuinely excited. Having a safe and reliable way to cut cardboard gave them confidence to work more independently, and it created a more productive classroom environment. They especially loved being able to enhance their designs with the new string options, and many students took extra pride in making their work look as polished as possible.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will be using the graph paper to begin designing outdoor benches for our school. Many of them thrive with hands-on, engaging, and visually supported materials, and these books have captured their interest in a way that keeps them motivated to learn. Students are more eager to participate in reading activities, and I've seen increased engagement, longer attention spans, and more confidence when interacting with text. For some students who previously struggled with reading, these books have helped make learning feel more enjoyable and accessible.\r\n\r\nSeveral of my students have especially connected with these new resources. Students who typically hesitate to engage are now independently reaching for books and asking to participate in lessons. This immediate access to materials has helped reduce frustration, increase engagement, and provide clearer expectations—something my students truly rely on to feel successful.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for my students is the increased consistency and structure in their daily learning. Many of my students with autism thrive on routine and clear visuals, and having personalized materials readily available has made a noticeable difference in their confidence. Students are more willing to participate, complete tasks, and take pride in their work when it is presented in a way that makes sense to them. The ability to print and update materials quickly also allows me to celebrate their progress more often, reinforcing positive behaviors and academic growth.\r\n\r\nI have seen several students especially benefit from these resources, particularly those who struggle with communication and transitions. The resource anxiety we aimed to eliminate vanished instantly, replaced by a focused energy as students organized their new tools. This shift sparked an immediate boost in their confidence; they didn't just feel prepared—they felt valued.\r\n\r\nThe motivational incentives have been a true game-changer. I've started a \"Goal-Getter\" board where students earn prizes for showing growth on their Khan Academy units.
