With these new leveled books, students are now able to practice essential reading skills like letter-sound recognition, blending, sight word identification, and comprehension using texts that truly match their abilities. During small group instruction and independent reading time, I've seen students become more focused and willing to take risks because they feel successful. Reading in our classroom now looks like students eagerly choosing their own \"just-right\" books, whisper-reading to themselves, practicing with partners, and even proudly rereading stories to build fluency.\r\n\r\nThe excitement when the books arrived was unforgettable. Students couldn't wait to explore them, and many immediately found favorites that they asked to read again and again. I've seen particular growth in students who were previously hesitant or unsure—one student who used to avoid reading is now volunteering to read aloud during group time, while another beams with pride each time they finish a book independently. These moments of confidence are exactly what early readers need to stay motivated and continue growing.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, we are building a classroom community of readers who feel capable and excited about learning. As we move forward, students will continue to strengthen their skills through guided reading groups, partner work, and at-home reading connections. Most importantly, they are beginning to see themselves as readers, and that mindset will stay with them far beyond our classroom. One special moment was watching a student who usually feels unsure about reading light up as they found a story they connected with—your support helped make that possible. Alongside the books, the motivational prizes have been a powerful way to celebrate students' hard work, whether they are staying focused, showing kindness, or pushing through a challenging task.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the energy in the room was unforgettable. Students were thrilled to explore the new books and couldn't wait to learn how they could earn prizes. Even students who sometimes struggle with motivation have been more engaged and determined. The combination of meaningful reading opportunities and positive reinforcement has helped build confidence and excitement for learning in a way that feels natural and encouraging.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are continuing to build strong reading habits and a positive classroom culture. This was really exciting for my students and they couldn't wait to see what I had ordered. I got them ready and they were literally pulling them off the shelves. I was asking their opinions of the books and they really enjoyed the variety. \r\n Our school uses an AR reading system. Students are placed on a reading level and then need to read books at their level to graduate to the next reading level. It promotes nightly reading, comprehension, increased vocabulary and students are able to practice reading books. \r\n Students are learning about Phonics during the day and are able to practice their reading skills daily and nightly. They are given daily, weekly and monthly goals to reach. We have two different independent reading times during the day for students to read and quiz on their books. They need to pass them for it to count on their AR badge. \r\n Students love variety and I love to get books that they are interested in reading. I had many students reading chapter books and I needed to get more for my students, because they were ready. When they aren't reading at school, they is required nightly reading of their books. They are really loving the graphic novels and many series of books such as \"Dogman,\" \"Bad Kitty,\", \"Big Nate,\" and many others. I also wanted to include more non-fiction books to my library. Learning how to properly follow along with the steps in a how-to-draw book can be confusing and frustrating for many students at first. Often the artists want to skip the steps entirely and only draw from the final image. Teaching my students how to follow and mimic the exact path of lines and shapes using proportions was the goal of this project and how the art books have been used here at Mervin Iverson Elementary School. \r\nFor the advanced fifth grade students, I challenged them to go one step further with their learning and create their own multi stepped how-to-draw images. Students were instructed to show eight or more steps in a sequence for others to be able to follow. I believe the pineapple drawing is a great example of upper level thinking. \r\nThank you donors for supplying our students with these wonderful books! These new books have quickly become a central part of our daily routine, and my students are beyond excited to explore them each day.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is active, joyful, and meaningful. During our literacy block, students rotate through small groups, partner reading, and independent browsing time. We use books to build foundational skills like recognizing letters and sounds, understanding story structure (beginning, middle, end), identifying characters and settings, and practicing retelling. We also use these texts to develop comprehension skills by asking and answering questions, making predictions, and connecting stories to our own lives.\r\n\r\nThese new books have allowed me to introduce a wider range of lessons in a more engaging way. For example, we've been able to compare characters across stories, explore nonfiction text features, and build vocabulary through rich, authentic language. Having a variety of books at different levels means every student can access texts that feel \"just right\" for them, which is so important in kindergarten.\r\n\r\nOne of the most special moments has been watching certain students truly light up with these new books. I have a few students who were previously hesitant about reading, but now they eagerly choose books, sit with a partner, and proudly \"read\" the pictures or retell the story in their own words. Other students love revisiting their favorite titles again and again, building confidence and fluency each time.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, reading in our classroom is no longer just a subject—it's an experience.
