Because the drone can autonomously track movement, students are able to film themselves in action—whether they are creating art, conducting science experiments outdoors, practicing athletic routines, or documenting their work from unique angles that would be impossible with a handheld camera. This hands‑free capability allows them to stay fully engaged in their project while still capturing high‑quality footage that they can later analyze, edit, and present.\r\nIn our community‑based photojournalism work, the drone has become an especially powerful tool. Students use it to capture aerial perspectives of local landmarks, community events, and natural spaces that shape our city's story. They've taken great pride in learning how responsible drone use can enhance storytelling—using the bird's‑eye view to show patterns, movement, and connections that aren't visible from the ground. The resulting images and videos have helped students better understand how perspective influences narrative, and they've become more thoughtful, intentional storytellers because of it.\r\nSome students who are typically hesitant to speak up or participate have completely come alive through this technology. A few have taken the lead in planning drone shots, coordinating fieldwork, and editing the footage into compelling short features. Others who struggle in more traditional academic tasks have found confidence in the technical and creative aspects of drone-based storytelling. Watching them step into leadership roles, collaborate with peers, and proudly share their cinematic work has been one of the most exciting parts of introducing this new tool.","fullyFundedDate":1768408221451,"projectUrl":"project/the-best-kind-of-droning-on/9989174/","projectTitle":"The Best Kind of Droning on...","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Oates","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8262323"},{"teacherId":5318435,"projectId":10000210,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for all that was given to my kindergarten class. They were so excited. This morning I added the new Legos into our STEM bins and they have already worked so hard at creating something new.\r\n\r\nSoon I will be introducing the play-doh and animals, for them to create habitats for the different animals. \r\n\r\nThe laminator will really help create memories for a long time towards the end of the year. I will be laminating some artifacts I have collected throughout the year and will present it to the families at the end of the year in a book.
