They especially love the alphabet magna tiles. What a great way to spell words and read by actually building with tiles. They also loved to see all the yummy snacks that we will share during snack time. Another major hit was the new electric pencil sharpener that is pink and sharpens the pencils like magic. This text introduces important literacy skills such as making inferences, identifying themes, understanding character development, and using evidence from the text to support ideas. Beyond reading skills, the story encourages meaningful discussions about empathy, perseverance, problem-solving, and what it means to belong — lessons that strongly resonate with my students.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is highly interactive and supportive. Students follow along in their own copies of the book, track text with their fingers, annotate key moments, and participate in guided discussions. We pause often to make predictions, clarify vocabulary, and connect the story to real-life experiences. Having individual copies has increased engagement, confidence, and independence, allowing students to fully participate at their own pace while still feeling part of a reading community.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled with stamina or confidence have shown noticeable growth and excitement. Some students eagerly volunteer to read aloud, while others light up during discussions because they feel connected to Roz's journey.
