The addition of Torx screwdrivers meant that devices that were once unusable suddenly became opportunities. The moment they realized they had the right tools for the job, the energy in the room shifted. There was excitement, focus, and a real sense of purpose as they worked through new challenges!\r\n\r\nWhat stood out most was how much more independent and collaborative the students became. With enough tools to go around, they didn't have to wait or sit on the sidelines. They jumped right in, helped each other problem-solve, and took pride in figuring things out. They celebrated small victories, like loosening a stubborn screw or carefully removing a part without damaging it. \r\n\r\nThank you for making this kind of learning possible! Your support didn't just provide tools, it created opportunities for curiosity, persistence, and hands-on success. These photos will be posted with our students' goals to help create a personalized vision. At the end of the year, students will be able to take home their goals and photos to celebrate their progress and accomplishments.\r\n\r\nThe printer just arrived and we've already started using it! Today, we displayed our \"Lions of the Month\" for students who are \"On the Rise!\" We asked teachers to identify one student from their class who is showing exceptional progress towards their goals. Students had their pictures taken with their certificates and the photos were hung in the hallway. We can't wait to celebrate our students for the rests of this year as they continue to make progress and growth. As you read in our proposal, one of our focus areas this year has been improving our student attendance rate. Since COVID, our attendance rate has hovered around 90% and we've had many students who are considered chronically tardy each year (missing more than 10% of the school year). This year we implemented several attendance incentives for students and classes as well as formed an attendance team to support families and encourage students to get to school on time every day! \r\n\r\nSo far, our attendance rate this year has increased almost 4 percentage points! Additionally, we have significantly cut the number of students who are considered chronically absent at this point in the year (missed 8 days or more). All of our 1st grade classes have received enough attendance cards for their first attendance party and we can't wait to celebrate them with you!\r\n\r\nWe know we're biased, but we believe that we serve some of the hardest working students in North Carolina. Their commitment to learning, each other, and their school is unparalleled. We are fortunate to work with a team of teachers and staff who believe in the power of public education and that education can be a great equalizer for students, families, and our country. They are so excited to choose a friend to play a board game with. Many of my little girls are being introduced to Lego's for the first time. They've never been gifted something they assumed to be \"for boys\". How do I say thank you enough? In education today, there is a great deal of demand for ...well everything really. Everything is on a timer. I love being a teacher. I am passionate about empowering students with knowledge. However, I am JUST as passionate about teaching my children about what it means to be a whole person. After all, learning is not a set of facts, it is training the mind to think. Students use them to actively work out problems, share their thinking, and collaborate with peers. This hands-on approach encourages participation and shared discussion leading to deeper understanding of the content and communication.\r\n\r\nThe folders, and journals we created from card stock and notebook paper, are vital places where students store thinking for future use, notes, and are ways to share with families and others the important ideas, reflections, and questions.\r\n\r\nThe sticky notes are an invaluable resource for annotating novels and other texts.
