These portable translation devices are making a meaningful difference in our students' daily learning experiences. While many of us are familiar with translation apps at home, these devices are unique because they work without internet and can translate both spoken and written language instantly. In the classroom, this means our English Language Learners can better understand directions, participate in discussions, and access academic content in real time rather than feeling lost or having to wait for adult assistance. This technology is now serving as a bridge that allows students to engage more fully, build confidence, and take greater ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nWhat students find most exciting about these devices is their independence. They love being able to use the translator on their own—whether to check the meaning of a word in a textbook, understand a classmate's comment, or communicate with teachers. Many students have described the device as \"helpful and easy to use\" because it allows them to participate more actively rather than feeling isolated by language differences. The portability of the device has also been a big plus, as students can carry it from class to class throughout the day and it is more discreet than a tablet.\r\n\r\nWe have seen several students especially warm to this new technology, particularly those who are newer to English and often hesitate to ask questions. One student, who was previously very quiet in class, now feels more comfortable attempting assignments and speaking up because they know they have a reliable tool to support them.","fullyFundedDate":1761668927618,"projectUrl":"project/this-little-device-makes-our-kids-world/9643614/","projectTitle":"This Little Device Makes Our Kids' World Big","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10218897"},{"teacherId":9638831,"projectId":9656710,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to help restock the supplies in my classroom. My students were so excited when they saw the package arrive. It's exciting enough when you get a package, but even more so when it's something for the class. \r\n\r\nI happily unboxed the new sharpener and pencils for all the room to see. Now, I don't know if you've ever been in a room full of excited 12 year olds, but it was rambunctious and chaotic to say the least. They were so excited about getting a new pencil sharpener. \r\n\r\nI used to hear students complain multiple times a day what a crappy pencil sharpener we had. Now I don't hear any of it. They're excited that it works so well. I also have an easier time teaching now that we have so many pencils available for students to use. Middle schoolers are notorious for not having a pencil (they somehow magically disappear between classes). It has been a huge blessing to no longer have to worry if all of my students are working or not because they didn't have a pencil. \r\n\r\nHopefully, these materials will last quite a while and my students can focus on their education and learning as much as they can.","fullyFundedDate":1738608885862,"projectUrl":"project/writing-our-way-to-success/8962976/","projectTitle":"Writing Our Way to Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Colemere","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9638831_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738617776594","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9638831"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_62555","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":850,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":34,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 7","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":78.0,"schoolId":62555,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Alice C Harris Intermediate School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Alice C Harris Intermediate School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/utah/box-elder-school-district/alice-c-harris-interm-school/62555"}
