I directed the students to a website and solution manual which I have gathered and uploaded them into a Rubik's Cube module on Canvas which the students could access. Some students took off on their own by reading and following the instructions on the solution manual and trying to figure it out on their own. Some students struggled on following the instructions and needed a more personal, one on one help. Everyone tried their best. There were many priceless moments. Those A-ha moments of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition, or comprehension in spite of occasional frustration and mistakes are big take away for me.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials got delivered to my classroom from the main office, I hid it from the students because we were reviewing for the current unit test at that time. However, I did tell them that the Rubik's Cubes have been delivered and we will be learning how to solve the cubes after the test. The students could hardly contain their excitement, but it also helped them focused on trying their best on the unit test and the results showed.\r\n\r\nFeedback from the students regarding the Rubik's Cube workshop:\r\n\r\nThought it was a fun activity to learn and know all the put comes of knowing how to solve one\r\n\r\nI thought that I was never going to solve it. But, after seeing everyone else be able to solve it, it made me believe that I could too. You just have to stay focused and understand the algorithm.\r\n\r\nI've always wanted to be able to solve a Rubik's cube, but I didn't think I was smart enough, so I never tried. I'm glad I got the opportunity to learn. I realized that it was easier than I thought. It was more practice than complex thinking. I struggled in the beginning, but now I can solve it without notes.\r\n\r\nI thought it was just something to be able to mess around with but having it as a grade made me think differently. Now that I can solve it with no notes makes me happy and a lot of people get impressed when you can solve it without looking at notes\r\n\r\nBefore solving the Rubik's cube I didn't think i was able to do it, during the learning process of how to solve the Rubik's cube I was much more confident in being able to solve the Rubik's cube, and after all that now I'm same to solve the Rubik's very fast.\r\n\r\nAt the beginning I didn't trust myself to solve the Rubik's cube but you believed me and finally i did it I'm so happy I did something different in my life and also thank you so much\r\n\r\nIt was an amazing experience.\r\n\r\nBefore I could only solve to the second layer and I couldn't do anything after that but now I can solve the whole thing easily.\r\n\r\nMr. Hsu was really good at teaching and helping understand how to solve it\r\n\r\nI thought it will be hard but soon you get to understand the cube more\r\n\r\nDuring on how to solve a Rubik's cube I was still pretty lost, but now that we got these now after, it felt so good solving that cube decently fast for me. I would of never thought I could solve it as fast as I did. But I'm still going to keep trying to solve it faster and faster.\r\n\r\nthought it was cool\r\n\r\nIt's a lot of fun solving the cube and helping my peers\r\n\r\nBefore the lesson had started, I was happy to hear that we would be doing something new like this in class. During the lessons, I genuinely enjoyed what we were doing and wanted to do more. After the lesson, I think it was a good choice and should be taught to future classes.\r\n\r\nBefore my thoughts were I want to learn it will be fun. during the learning process I was frustrated with all the memorizations. After I was finished learning I was happy that I could finally solve it.\r\n\r\nI always like solving it but never really tried for a better time, but seeing it pop up again made me want to learn some more algorithms and things. I thought it was pretty cool seeing everyone else progress though.\r\n\r\nI thought it was going to be more hard to solve. It is hard but not a lot.\r\n\r\nI see a change in my students' attitude towards handling challenges. Some of my students still lack the confidence in believing in themselves. But I hope I have opened their eyes to the possibilities and potential that they can believe in themselves to try new things, especially difficult challenges in life. I really hope that I can have the resources to do this every year.","fullyFundedDate":1756930647226,"projectUrl":"project/all-students-can-learn-to-solve-the-rubi/9605458/","projectTitle":"All Students Can Learn to Solve the Rubik's Cube!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jonathan Hsu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8280989_orig.jpg?crop=679,679,x676,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1651675698034","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8280989"},{"teacherId":2992189,"projectId":10008505,"letterContent":"Thank you for fully funding our project, Restocking Everyday Classroom Supplies for Focused Learning.
