{"monthlySchoolDonationEnabled":false,"callToActionDisplayName":"Magna Elementary School","outOfStateSupporters":27.4,"allowSchoolLevelGiving":true,"hasFundedProjects":true,"projectGratitudeData":[{"teacherId":9623400,"projectId":9864030,"letterContent":"This year, providing daily snacks for my first-grade students had a meaningful and noticeable impact on their learning, behavior, and overall well-being. Access to consistent snacks helped create a more equitable classroom environment by ensuring that all students had the nourishment they needed to stay focused and engaged throughout the school day. For many students, this support played a crucial role in helping them feel comfortable, cared for, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nOne of the most immediate changes I observed was an improvement in students' ability to concentrate during instructional time. At the beginning of the year, I noticed that some students struggled to stay attentive, particularly in the late morning or mid-afternoon. After implementing a regular snack time, students returned to lessons more energized and better able to participate in discussions, complete independent work, and collaborate with peers. The predictable routine of snack time also helped minimize disruptions, as students were less likely to express hunger-related discomfort during lessons.\r\n\r\nProviding snacks also had a positive impact on classroom behavior. When students' basic needs are met, they are better equipped to regulate their emotions and interact positively with others. I observed fewer instances of irritability and an increase in patience and cooperation among students. Snack time itself became a community-building moment where students practiced social skills such as sharing space, using polite manners, and engaging in friendly conversation. These small but meaningful interactions contributed to a stronger classroom culture built on respect and kindness.\r\n\r\nAcademically, the availability of snacks supported student stamina, especially during longer learning blocks. First graders are still developing their endurance for sustained focus, and having a snack helped them maintain energy levels needed for reading, writing, and problem-solving tasks. I noticed that students were more willing to persevere through challenging assignments and demonstrated improved productivity when they were not distracted by hunger. This was especially beneficial during assessments and small group instruction, where sustained attention is essential.\r\n\r\nSnack availability also promoted a sense of inclusivity and reduced stigma. By providing snacks for all students, I ensured that no child felt singled out or embarrassed about their circumstances. This approach fostered a safe and supportive environment where students could focus on learning rather than worrying about whether they had food. Families expressed appreciation for this support, sharing that it eased morning routines and provided reassurance that their children's needs were being met at school.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, snack time provided opportunities for teaching important life skills. Students learned about making healthy choices, cleaning up after themselves, and following routines. These moments reinforced responsibility and independence, which are essential skills for young learners. Over time, students became more efficient and respectful during snack transitions, demonstrating growth in self-management.\r\n\r\nOverall, providing snacks this year had a significant positive impact on my students' academic performance, social-emotional development, and classroom engagement. Meeting students' nutritional needs supported their ability to focus, participate, and thrive in the learning environment. This experience reinforced the importance of addressing the whole child, showing that when students feel physically supported, they are better prepared to succeed both academically and socially.","fullyFundedDate":1763498230360,"projectUrl":"project/snacks-for-title-1-1st-graders/9864030/","projectTitle":"Snacks for Title 1 1st Graders","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McMaster","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9623400_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730000914483","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9623400"},{"teacherId":5106925,"projectId":9734398,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our Ðǿմ«Ã½ project, Turning Pages: Exploring Class Novels. Thank you very much.\r\nTeaching books really entails understanding what the core points are from them and helping them see how things not only come out in an interesting book but also how they apply to the real world. This might sound odd when talking about fantasy and magic but even with these there are core truths we can distill from the text and help students understand them and use them to start thinking about things, real things. They are life microcosms, the best ones, which can serve as a beginning point to understand the world and the people in it.\r\nEven fantasy can help do this because, after all, if it were entirely unrelated to life or to what people feel and think, they would not be read. This is beside the fact that they tend to be more engaging to students these days.\r\nReading books can help promote critical thinking, in other words. This can go too far at times with analysis of everything about it. This can stomp out what is appealing about the book in the first place. It also takes the fun out of it and that means that the engagement we want and need disappears. We need the story to capture the students interest, keep them engaged, so that we can teach them something about the truths these books contain, about life, about the human condition, etc. \r\nReading the words themselves and understanding the text and the story also helps students to be able to think, to put things together and see how ideas and narratives flow. This is important in helping students learn to communicate.\r\nThere were students that were much more involved than others of them were. That is often the case, most especially in lower income areas like ours was. But these engaged students were excited to read it.","fullyFundedDate":1746787057880,"projectUrl":"project/reading-is-fun/9200277/","projectTitle":"Reading is Fun","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9636021"},{"teacherId":5106925,"projectId":9280874,"letterContent":"I wanted to take a moment to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generous contribution to my Ðǿմ«Ã½ project, \"Cancel the noise learning with headphones\".
