I use them to model skills like regrouping, place value, and fractions during whole-group instruction. For example, when learning regrouping, students could clearly see how numbers change as I moved the pieces, which made the concept much easier to understand.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the manipulatives, they were very excited and curious. They were eager to watch how they worked and participate in the lesson. The large size helped keep everyone engaged and focused on the math.\r\n\r\nNext, students will use these visual models to support their independent work with word problems and fractions. Seeing the math in action has already helped build their confidence and understanding.","fullyFundedDate":1742917674028,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-math-learning-in-our-4th-grade/9201072/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Math Learning in Our 4th Grade Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Monson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3327510_orig.jpg?crop=3137,3137,x1240,y510&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1628657766972","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3327510"},{"teacherId":3327510,"projectId":8065492,"letterContent":"Our wobble stools have made a big difference in our 4th grade classroom by helping students stay focused and engaged during learning time. During a recent writing lesson, students who typically struggle with sitting still were able to stay on task longer and complete more of their work because the gentle movement helped them focus.\r\n\r\nWhen the stools were first introduced, students were very excited and eager to try them. After a short time, they quickly learned how to use them responsibly and understood that they were tools to help improve learning, not distractions.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using the wobble stools during longer lessons, independent work, and group projects. One student shared that using it made them feel like a real engineer, which showed how meaningful hands-on tools can be.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the paper cutter, they were excited and curious to try it. It has been such an impactful challenge-based learning opportunity that I've decided to modify the lesson for Kinder-3rd graders. It will be interesting to see the aluminum foil boat designs every grade creates and the concrete science concepts they will grasp through testing and observation. \r\nWe will continue to use the materials through the rest of the year and the students are so excited to experience math and science in hands-on ways. The tangram template cards were particularly challenging at first, but as students have practiced with them, they are gaining more confidence and joy as they excel at this spatial awareness activity.\r\nThe large individual whiteboards are useful for students to write out their math thinking while we play Krypto. Students have improved in their teamwork skills as one person records and another presents by reading the math thinking on the individual white board. It is such a better tool than the smaller whiteboards. They also work well as large signs so we don't waste paper. \r\nIn all, students are truly benefiting from your investment in these project materials and my class is a favorite because of it!","fullyFundedDate":1767199554117,"projectUrl":"project/stem-olympiad-practice-materials/9942521/","projectTitle":"Stem Olympiad Practice Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Little","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10348525_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764563222905","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10348525"},{"teacherId":7127409,"projectId":9900203,"letterContent":"Thank you again for allowing the children in my classroom to have the supplies they need for ongoing learning and discovery. \r\nThese STEM supplies give them access to hands on learning, self-discovery and choice, and the ability to choose items that help build imagination in these areas of math, science, engineering and technology--even at this beginning first grade level.\r\nAgain, these items from your donations enhance my classroom with things I would not be able to afford myself.
