The yellow cube chairs have been essential in getting my little learners in a routine. They love getting their chair out for circle time in the morning and putting them away when we are finished. These chairs allow them all their own little space to participate in calendar and morning songs. \r\nThe art smocks have been a blessing for everything from art projects to messy lunches. Our students all go home nice and clean each day. The smocks also allow us to do messy play with shaving cream which is a huge hit in our classroom.\r\nThe items from this donors choose get used every day. Currently, our students have utilized our new resources during weekly check ins with me, their school counselor and to deescalate situations where students may be emotional and unable to cope with certain emotions. For example, one of my students regularly using the canopy and calm down techniques on the pillows to calm himself down and process the emotions he is feeling. The feelings pillow also help the students understand emotions that they may not be used to at this age such as embarrassment or confusion. \r\nWhen the students first saw our new materials, they were intrigued, especially by the canopy tent and grass wall. Many have described the room as \"calming\" and parents who have visited have given many compliments as it makes our School Counseling office more inviting and calming for our students! The coping skill pillows always show students new ways to manage their feelings and give them an opportunity to act out these coping skills on their own! I plan to continue to utilize these resources to help students understand their feelings and practice emotional regulation!
