Seeing their faces light up as they discovered new ways to learn was priceless!\r\n\r\nThese tools have made abstract concepts easier to understand, and the students now feel more confident tackling fractions. Thank you for donating the following tools; magnetic fraction bars 1/12 to 1 whole, pie fraction parts 1/12 to 1 whole, and various pattern blocks. The attached photos will demonstrate how 5th grade students engage in adding and subtracting fraction parts kinesthetically in the classroom community. \r\nFollowing the instruction segment of a fraction lesson, each student engage in a deeper cognative level by manipulating fraction parts. What I found was that students can identify the concept of finding common denominators to add and subtract fraction and can explain how common denominators are needed. \r\nOnce the student identifies finding common denominators in tactile practice, the student can find the sum or difference in writing to compare and solidify their Math thinking. Math manipulatives like these allow students to manipulate \"like\" parts of a whole to understand the concept of adding or subtractiing pieces of the same size. \r\nI have witnessed enjoyment in this learning strategy as 5th grade students are able to physically manipulate fraction parts and find answers independently.","fullyFundedDate":1727060801031,"projectUrl":"project/5th-grade-1-to-1-math-manipulatives/8812682/","projectTitle":"5th Grade 1 to 1 Math Manipulatives","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rooney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9773101"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_39699","usesÐǿմ«Ã½":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":405,"numTeachers":27,"percentFrplEligible":33,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":64,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"15.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":62.5,"schoolId":39699,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Loy Elementary School on @Ðǿմ«Ã½:","schoolName":"Loy Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/great-falls-school-district-1a/loy-elementary-school/39699"}
