Students spend time reading independently, in small groups, and through shared texts. My students have been especially impacted by the National Geographic Kids books. Many students are highly motivated by these texts because they are visually engaging and full of clear text features. Students have pointed out maps, photographs, captions, and diagrams, and they often connect this information to reading, math, science, and social studies topics we discuss in class. These books have helped students feel more confident navigating nonfiction texts and have increased their excitement and curiosity about reading!","fullyFundedDate":1699754520396,"projectUrl":"project/second-graders-love-reading/8015705/","projectTitle":"Second Graders Love Reading!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gomes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9359798"},{"teacherId":3788770,"projectId":8010642,"letterContent":"We are using the new resources every day, and they have already made a meaningful difference in our classroom. One memorable moment was during our science and writing block when students used the materials to design and test a sound source for a puppet show scene. Students worked collaboratively, explored cause and effect, and then wrote and shared sentences explaining how their sound was made. Seeing them confidently use academic language while engaging hands-on was incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their reactions were full of excitement and curiosity. Many immediately asked questions, wanted to touch and explore everything, and couldn't wait to begin. Several of my English Learners, who are sometimes hesitant to participate verbally, were eager to share ideas and explain what they noticed. The materials made learning feel accessible, fun, and engaging for everyone.\r\n\r\nThanks to our donors, students now have the tools they need to deepen their learning. Our next steps include expanding this project by having students revise their writing using sentence frames, rehearse oral explanations with partners, and present their designs to the class. We will continue integrating reading, writing, speaking, and science as students build confidence, language skills, and content knowledge. Your generosity has truly opened the door to richer learning experiences for my students, and we are so grateful for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1699707396734,"projectUrl":"project/big-book-readers-in-need/8010642/","projectTitle":"Big Book Readers In Need!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Buhler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3788770_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1472044032883","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3788770"},{"teacherId":8181372,"projectId":9694410,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our calm tools project. Because of you, my students now have access to resources that help them regulate their emotions, manage stress, and refocus when they need a break. These tools have made a meaningful difference in creating a calm, supportive environment in both our classroom and calm area.\r\nOne of the students' favorite items has been the jellyfish lamp. Students often comment on how much they love it and how watching it helps them feel calm and relaxed. It has become a powerful visual tool for students who need a moment to breathe and reset before returning to learning.\r\nThe weighted stuffed animal has also been incredibly helpful. Students enjoy resting it on their laps while sitting on the couch in our calm area, which provides comfort and a sense of security. These items have helped students feel safe, supported, and better able to regulate their emotions. Thank you for helping make our classroom a place where students' emotional needs are valued just as much as their academic growth.","fullyFundedDate":1758636566303,"projectUrl":"project/keeping-calm-carrying-on/9694410/","projectTitle":"Keeping Calm & Carrying On","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carr","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8181372_orig.jpg?crop=508,508,x64,y116&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1651290903074","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8181372"},{"teacherId":8181372,"projectId":9388189,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom. Because of you, my students now have access to snacks when they are hungry, and it has truly been a lifesaver. Hunger can make it incredibly difficult for students to focus, participate, and do their best learning. Having snacks available has helped students stay energized, focused, and ready to learn throughout the day, creating a more supportive and caring classroom environment.\r\n\r\nThe chair bands have also made a huge difference for my students who need movement to stay focused. Many of my fourth graders have fidgety feet, and the chair bands give them a quiet, appropriate way to move while still staying engaged in lessons. Since using them, I've noticed students are calmer, more attentive, and better able to regulate themselves during learning time.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has had a direct and meaningful impact on my students' daily success and well-being.
