Most people are aware of Photoshop as photo editing software. Many are unaware of its awesome capabilities as a drawing and painting program. Photo shop offers several different types of brush tips that students can use to draw or paint that are quite similar to their analog counterparts. To list just a few, there is a pencil that appears to like lead when drawn on the screen. There are charcoal and chalk brushes too. There are also several different paint brushes that perform like water color, acrylic, and oil paints.\r\n\r\nLearning to draw and paint digitally offers a students the chance to learn about art in a lower stakes environment. Since the paints and other materials, mistakes can be easily erased or otherwise fixed in ways that are not possible with analog art techniques.\r\n\r\nThe only issue with this digital artform is the classic computer mouse. It does not feel natural to paint or draw with this tool. The boards I bought with your donation offer a much more natural experience. They have been very eager to learn how to use the equipment and the benefits they provide them.\r\n\r\nThe next steps will be for students to master utilizing the equipment. They currently still need a lot of instruction on how to use the equipment properly. The fidget tools and headphones have been especially impactful during independent work and small group activities. For example, during a recent writing assignment, I noticed several students who typically struggle to focus were able to stay engaged for longer periods of time. One student shared that the headphones helped block out distractions, allowing them to fully concentrate and complete their work with confidence—something that doesn't always come easily for them.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were beyond excited. There was a sense of joy and gratitude in the room as they explored the new tools. Many of them immediately recognized how these items could help them learn better, and they were eager to use them responsibly. It was a powerful moment to see students feel supported and understood in their individual needs.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these resources will continue to support our current lessons, especially as we focus on building stamina in reading and writing. Every week I show my students a book trailer and have them rate the trailer with how likely they are to read the book based off of what they watched.
