One of the key areas that we're focusing on as a school is increasing the opportunities that scholars have to write--either words or sentences. I know, from past schools that I've worked in, students are far more willing to write when it feels less permanent, so mistakes can easily be corrected. This campus had no personal whiteboards in several areas of the school, including the media center. \r\n\r\nThe students were thrilled to have the new resources. I did give them a chance to simply use them \"for fun\" when they first arrived, but now they receive use almost every time classes are in the library. \r\n\r\nIn the spring, the media center will be hosting a \"book tasting,\" and I'm anticipating using the materials for giving them a chance to rank the books they read while also giving written responses clarifying why they like certain books. I'm hoping it will build a sense of community to see how their thinking might align with other students they might not know as well as others.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping our scholars to have fun while mastering the mechanics of writing.","fullyFundedDate":1758466333369,"projectUrl":"project/read-books-write-thoughts-wipe-them-a/9621511/","projectTitle":"Read Books, Write Thoughts! Thanks to your generous donation, my students are improving their organization and literacy skills. My students are excited to learn, and they are benefiting from the opportunities these resources provide. \r\nEvery day during phonics lessons, my students use the Expo Dry Erase Markers to practice writing words on a board. I find this to be very effective for helping them develop new literacy skills. Similarly, books in our classroom are an essential part of their learning journey. Because students love to read them over and over, they often get torn and worn out. I was using just tape to repair them, but thanks to your donation of the best stapler, I now have the perfect tool to keep them in great shape. The Bostitch Office No-Jam Booklet Stapler has made it so much easier to take care of broken books.\r\nIn addition to the importance of these tools, organization skills are a priority in the first-grade classroom. The pencil and book pouches you donated have been invaluable in keeping everything organized. Now, students are able to make the most of their independent reading and writing time, as books are easy to find and writing tools are always within reach when they need them.\r\nI want to thank you again for making this possible. It may seem like a small tool, but the impact has been tremendous!\r\n\r\nFrom the moment we unboxed it, my students were excited. They were amazed at how quickly and quietly it sharpened their pencils, and they immediately noticed something different—it stops sharpening at just the right point! In the past, broken pencil tips and burned-out motors were a daily struggle, as students often kept pushing their pencils even when they were already sharp. With this new sharpener, that problem is completely gone.\r\n\r\nWe use our new sharpener constantly throughout the day. Whether it's preparing for writing assignments, math problem-solving, or creative projects, students now have a reliable way to keep their pencils ready without disrupting the class. One student even called it \"the smartest sharpener ever\" because it knows when to stop! Not only has this saved us frustration, but it's also saving our supplies—pencils are lasting much longer since they aren't being over-sharpened.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students are currently working on a creative writing project, and this sharpener has ensured that they stay focused on their ideas rather than on finding a working pencil. With fewer interruptions and distractions, they are able to engage more deeply in their writing, which is a huge win for both them and me as their teacher.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity. It is common for many students to struggle with writing because they don't know where to begin. I always start with telling your story... Everyone has a story... Giving kids time to verbally tell their story helps them to recall so many details. All of those details can then be turned into an actual piece of writing. The favorite part of the writing process is sometimes the publishing. Students are amazed to see their writing, turned into an actual book. The book binding kit, the laminator, and all of the other materials help me turn my students writing into beautiful masterpieces.
