Your decision to fund our project for new reading and math resources has brought a wave of excitement and renewed energy to our classroom. \r\n\r\nIn a busy classroom, having the right tools makes all the difference. Because of your support, my students now have access to engaging reading materials. My new literacy centers will help bridge the gap for struggling readers and spark a lifelong love for learning. The hands-on math manipulatives provide concrete tools that transform abstract numbers into concepts my students can touch, move, and truly understand.\r\n\r\nMany of my students face challenges outside of school, but when they walk through my classroom doors, they deserve the very best resources to help them succeed. Your kindness sends a powerful message to them that their education matters. Seeing their faces light up as we unboxed the new supplies was a reminder of why I teach. It wasn't just about \"stuff\"—it was about the new possibilities those resources represent. These wonderful tools will be used not only by my current students, but my future classes to have the long-term benefits of your donation.\r\n\r\nThank you for being the fuel for that change. One of our first projects was building small cars and testing whose design could roll the farthest. Students worked in teams, planned their designs, and used both English and Spanish to explain their ideas. It was amazing to see students problem-solve when wheels didn't turn or structures fell apart, then redesign and try again.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were so excited and immediately started sharing ideas about what they wanted to build. Many students who are usually quiet in class became very engaged, talking with teammates and proudly showing their creations. These hands-on activities helped our bilingual learners feel confident participating, even if they are still developing their English, because they could show their thinking through building and explaining with visuals and gestures.\r\n\r\nNext, we will begin an engineering challenge where students design bridges and ramps using the wooden rods and Play-Doh to test strength and stability. We will connect this to lessons about shapes, balance, and cause and effect. We used the foam pumpkin craft kits for a hands-on project where each student designed their own \"feelings pumpkin.\" They chose a face to represent an emotion and then shared why they picked it. It was such a meaningful way to build emotional vocabulary while also giving everyone a chance to be creative. The dinosaur bubble wands and mini foam footballs have turned into perfect incentives for movement breaks. They help my students regulate, reset, and come back ready to learn. The double mirrors have been especially helpful during our SEL lessons as students practice identifying their own expressions during emotion-matching activities.\r\n\r\nWhen my student saw the materials they were so excited. Many of my students immediately grabbed the coloring books and started flipping through the pages, commenting on the different feelings and characters. Others were eager to open the ornament kits or try the bubble wands. It felt like the room lit up. They were engaged, curious, and ready to explore. Their smiles said everything. I wish I would have gotten a picture of their immediate reactions.\r\n\r\nWe're currently working on building emotional awareness and communication skills, and these new materials fit right into that goal. Our next step is creating individual \"All About Me\" boards using their double-mirror self-portraits, favorite emotion pages from the coloring books, and a written sentence about something that makes them feel proud. We'll also be using the ornament sets to create \"Calm Tree\" decorations. Students will write a calming strategy or positive affirmation on each ornament and take it home to hang or choose to hang it in our classroom. These projects will help reinforce their coping skills.","fullyFundedDate":1762177466492,"projectUrl":"project/reflect-and-create/9745986/","projectTitle":"Reflect and Create","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Estrada","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8569518_orig.jpg?crop=1692,1692,x0,y242&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659736788964","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8569518"},{"teacherId":4129492,"projectId":9632966,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations that helped bring speed stacking cups to our P.E. program! It's amazing to see how students who may have struggled with confidence in other physical activities are thriving with this new skill. They are learning about timing, hand-eye coordination, and teamwork while cheering each other on. The sense of accomplishment when they beat their own time or work together to complete a relay is truly inspiring.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include organizing a \"Speed Stacking Challenge Week,\" where students can set personal goals and work toward improving their times. Having sturdy folders that will last all year long for the students to keep their work in has been a huge help and having magazine holders to keep them organized is a plus. Students also share crayons, colored pencils, and other supplies so having crayon boxes to keep them in good quality has helped tremendously. Having a gift card to Teacherspayteachers has also allowed me access to dual language items that I would have to make myself or spend lots of money to acquire.
