Our school has a large ENL population and some know little to no English. We are fortunate to have some staff who can translate during normal classroom time but they are limited as there are 17 classrooms and only a handful for fluent adults. In each classroom there are typically a few students who are very reliable and can help with everyday tasks however, it is not efficient solution to students who are also learning and especially when it comes to more private matters. Helping all my scholars feel dignified and giving them discretion is important. Due to the materials I made for them to use their Post-Its with, they also have access to sentence stems and visuals to help them write their answer. The baskets have been helpful to store these materials in, and it helps keep our classroom neat. I feel like the kids are learning so much! The ZipSnip was key to cutting down all the cardboard designs along with a huge box that we turned into a sleigh and was used for a photo-op for our families! We even broke out some origami and scratch pad paper to help a class who needed some extra time before returning to class.
