Your kindness in providing a couch and additional supplies has made a meaningful impact on the space where I support and connect with my students every day.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my office is now a more welcoming, comfortable, and safe environment. The couch, in particular, has transformed the room into a calming space where students can relax, open up, and feel at ease during our time together. The additional supplies have also helped me better meet the diverse emotional and social needs of the students I serve.\r\n\r\nYour support goes far beyond physical items—it helps create a sense of belonging and care for each student who walks through my door. We recently used it for our wheel throwing unit, where students are challenged to learn how to throw on the pottery wheel for the first time.\r\n\r\nOne of my junior students, who often felt overwhelmed by the high-torque, industrial Brent wheels, found her \"rhythm\" on the Quark. Because of its precision and smaller footprint, she felt more in control of the clay. Watching her successfully pull a consistent wall for the first time without the intimidation factor of the larger equipment was a highlight of the semester. It has truly become the \"bridge\" we hoped it would be.\r\n\r\nThe reaction was a mix of curiosity and pure excitement! When we unboxed the Quark, the students were immediately impressed by its sleek, modern design. They couldn't believe something so compact could offer the same stability as our larger wheels. There was a genuine \"wow\" moment when they saw how easily we could adjust the height; several students remarked on how much more comfortable it felt to sit at compared to the fixed-height entry wheels. It made them feel like the studio was evolving specifically to meet their needs.\r\n\r\nNow that we've mastered the basics of centering and pulling on the Quark, our next step is exploring trimming and foot-making. Students will use the Quark's steady torque to learn how to trim away excess clay from the bottom of their leather-hard pieces, creating professional \"feet\" for their bowls. \r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, we've effectively eliminated the \"waiting line\" for quality equipment. More students are spending more time with their hands on clay, and the growth in their technical confidence is visible every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1768238722516,"projectUrl":"project/finding-the-just-right-spin-elevating/9998846/","projectTitle":"Finding the \"Just Right\" Spin: Elevating Our Pottery Studio","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kuniya","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8107539_orig.jpg?crop=384,384,x187,y50&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1633051603133","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8107539"},{"teacherId":8112728,"projectId":10023773,"letterContent":"It was so great for the students to use the supplies to make decorations for the State Conference! Thanks to your funding, my AP Human Geography students participated in an innovative, hands-on exploration of global agriculture through the lens of cocoa bean cultivation and the international chocolate supply chain.\r\n\r\nThe chocolate tasting was a tremendous success. Students were highly engaged and eager to compare flavor profiles as they investigated how geography, climate, labor systems, and economic conditions shape agricultural outputs. They explored essential questions about sustainability, fair trade certification, environmental impact, and the challenges faced by cocoa farmers in developing countries. Rather than learning these concepts solely from a textbook, students connected real products to real-world systems, which significantly strengthened their understanding of global interdependence.\r\n\r\nThe project also sparked meaningful discussions about consumer responsibility and ethical purchasing decisions. Students examined how global trade patterns influence economic disparity and how informed consumers can impact agricultural practices. The hands-on component made abstract concepts tangible and memorable, deepening both comprehension and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the snacks provided through this project have positively impacted my classroom environment. Having small treats available has helped students maintain focus, especially during longer block periods. The snacks also serve as effective incentives for participation and academic engagement. I have noticed improved attentiveness, stronger class discussions, and increased enthusiasm during lessons.\r\n\r\nYour support has allowed my students to experience learning in a dynamic, memorable way that connects classroom content to the real world.
