Meanwhile, the whiteboards have transformed our small group sessions, providing a perfect, low-pressure way for me to perform quick, interactive checks for understanding. Seeing students eagerly hold up their boards with their answers gives me immediate insight into who needs extra support and who is ready for a challenge.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are using the momentum from these new materials to dive deeper into our upcoming unit on narrative writing. The treasure boxes have become a fantastic incentive, and I am planning a \"Publishing Party\" where students can earn special tokens for meeting their drafting and editing goals. Using their new, high-quality headphones to listen to mentor texts and audio-assisted reading materials will help them build the vocabulary and confidence needed to write their own stories. They listened attentively to the step-by-step instructions on how to create their sensory bottles, demonstrating strong engagement and readiness to participate. As they explored the materials, my students expressed their creativity and curiosity in different ways. Some chose to decorate the outside of their bottles with stickers, while others placed the stickers inside to observe whether they would float. Each student independently decided what materials to include in their bottle, promoting choice-making and personal expression.\r\n\r\nThe activity lasted approximately 15 minutes, during which students remained actively engaged. They particularly enjoyed shaking their bottles and were fascinated as the glitter, stickers, and pom-poms moved up and down. This visual stimulation captured their attention and encouraged sustained focus. Each student created two sensory bottles; one to take home and one to keep in the classroom. The classroom sensory bottles are easily accessible during free time or moments of overwhelm, providing students with a calming and self-regulation tool alongside other available sensory supports.\r\n\r\nThe activity fostered creativity and independence and also supported my students' sensory needs, engagement, and emotional regulation in a meaningful and enjoyable way.\r\n\r\nThank you for your generous support in bringing the \"Shake, Roll, Discover: STEM Sensory Bottles for Primary Autism\" project to life.
