Because of you, our classroom now has a sensory table and magnetic matching and sorting games that my 4-year-olds use every single day. These materials have quickly become some of the most loved tools in our room.\r\n\r\nWhen I first revealed the sensory table, the reaction was pure joy. My students gathered around it with wide eyes and huge smiles. One student actually said, \"Is that for us?!\" That first week, we filled it with colorful counting bears, scoops, and small containers. What looked like simple play quickly turned into rich math conversations. I watched one little learner carefully count each bear as she dropped them into a cup, starting over when she lost track because she was determined to \"get it right.\" Another group began sorting the bears by color and proudly announcing how many were in each group. They weren't just playing — they were building real number sense, problem-solving, and confidence.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic matching and sorting games have also been a huge hit during small group time. The children love the satisfying \"click\" when the magnets snap into place. They challenge themselves to match shapes, sort by color, and recognize numbers. Even some of my quieter students, who don't always volunteer during whole-group lessons, eagerly participate when the magnets come out. I've seen growth in their fine motor skills, their math vocabulary, and their willingness to try something new. They now use words like \"more,\" \"less,\" \"same,\" and \"different\" naturally during play.\r\n\r\nThese resources are now woven into our daily routine. We use the sensory table for counting practice, creating patterns, comparing quantities, and even telling simple math stories. Next, we are beginning to explore early addition concepts by combining groups in the sensory table and physically seeing what happens when we \"put together.\" The magnetic games will continue to support number recognition and sorting by multiple attributes. It's amazing how much deeper their understanding becomes when they can touch, move, and explore the materials themselves.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made learning feel joyful and meaningful for my students. At four years old, these hands-on experiences are exactly what they need. You didn't just donate supplies — you created opportunities for discovery, confidence, and growth. Thank you for believing in our little learners and for investing in their future.\r\n\r\nWith sincere appreciation,","fullyFundedDate":1768681595699,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-learning-through-sensory-play-a/10027313/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Learning Through Sensory Play and Math","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kirby","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8192508"},{"teacherId":10411015,"projectId":10037112,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our \"Building, Playing, and Learning Together\" project for our four-year-old Pre-K students. Because of you, our classroom feels more welcoming, comfortable, and engaging for our youngest learners. The very large soft rug has truly become the center of our room. Every morning, my students eagerly find their spots for circle time, stories, songs, and shared conversations. It gives them a cozy, safe place to sit together, learn routines, and build a sense of classroom community — which is such an important part of Pre-K.\r\n\r\nWhen the train sets and farm animal Magna-Tiles arrived, the excitement was pure joy. There were wide eyes, big smiles, and lots of \"Can we play with them now?\" The very first time we brought them out, the children immediately spread out across the rug and began exploring. Some carefully connected train tracks, figuring out how to make the pieces fit just right. Others stacked the Magna-Tiles to build barns, animal pens, and tall towers for their farm animals. At four years old, so much learning happens through play, and it was beautiful to watch them naturally practice sharing, taking turns, and solving problems together. When a tower fell over, they didn't give up — they rebuilt it. When the train track didn't connect, they tried again. Those small moments are big milestones at this age.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun using the materials to support early literacy and language development. After building farms with the Magna-Tiles, students gathered on the rug to talk about the animals they chose and what happens on a farm. They are learning new vocabulary like \"barn,\" \"tractor,\" and \"tracks,\" and practicing speaking in complete sentences. With the train sets, we've introduced simple concepts like direction, sequencing, and teamwork. Watching four-year-olds collaborate — saying things like \"You hold it, I'll fix it\" — has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we will continue incorporating these materials into our learning centers and thematic units on community helpers, transportation, and animals. The rug gives us a gathering space to connect as a class, and the trains and Magna-Tiles provide hands-on experiences that support fine motor development, social-emotional growth, and early problem-solving skills. Your generosity has given our Pre-K children opportunities to learn in the way they learn best — through play, exploration, and shared experiences.
